About The New Zealand Haars
Welcome to all New Zealand descendants of Conrad and Hedwig Haar and to our Australian cousins, descendants of Conrad's brother Johann Friedrich who settled in Australia.

Over 150 years ago in 1859 Conrad Haar and his wife Hedwig Wendelken sailed from London on the Victory with sons Henry age 4, George age 2 and Conrad jnr just 6 months old, to start a new life in New Zealand.

Conrad had left Germany in 1851 for London where he worked as a sugar refiner. I have in my possession, Conrad's New Testament and his Messiah Vol 5 which came out with him on the "Victory". This website is dedicated to these two pioneers to whom we owe our lives today.

My grandmother was Inez Alice Haar who married James Seeling and as a child I lived opposite them in Surrey Road, Wanganui. My great grandmother Alice Haar, widow of Frederick, Conrad and Hedwig's youngest son lived with them until her death.

Later while living on the Gold Coast, Queensland in 1991 I was fortunate to meet Charles Albert Haar from Burpengary, who gave me extensive Haar records which form the major part of this tree. Thanks to Paul and Sue Haar from Melbourne I now have Johann Friedrich's tree to add in.

In 2012 and again in 2014 I travelled to Lilienthal (near Bremen) where Conrad was born, and drove along the cobblestone road alongside the Truperdeich. We stayed in the delightful village Worpswede where many of his ancestors were born. They are part of the Teufelsmoor a low lying area which over time was drained by many waterways.

The goal of this website is to keep this history up to date and available for not only today's family members but also future descendants of Conrad and Johann Friedrich.

Registered members will have access to all pages on the site, be able to create and print charts, upload photos and add or update their direct relatives (parents, children, siblings and spouse). This is a free website but only registered members can access all the family information so please pass on to your family members to request membership.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
